Something Old, Something New…

Behold, I am doing a new thing; I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Is 43:19

The old house, our first house…I’m not going to lie, I cried on the last day, so many memories were built in this house.

In 2016, we started looking to buy a new house as our old house which was perfect as a starter home when it was just Allan and I but quickly became obvious to us after Maddison came home that we needed a more kid-friendly, open concept house (Things you don’t think about when you don’t have kids) to accommodate our growing family hence the search for a more family friendly home began.

At first, we thought we wanted to be close to family and so location was on the top of our list, great school for Maddison, open floor plan, office since I work from home, playroom. After searching for almost a year and not being able to find what we were looking for, we decided to take a break from house hunting and

asked the Lord to lead us if it was His will for us to buy a house and in what location. I decided to become content with what we had, after all, we had been very blessed to become homeowners in our 20’s and were able to lock in a fabulous interest rate so why not just stay there and maybe remodel some stuff. That was the plan and we were at peace with it!

Purchasing a home is a major decision for most people. Your house is where you spend most of your time, it’s where your heart and soul is, it’s your safe haven, your happy place with those you love so it’s important to take your time, pray about it, consult the Lord on where He would like for you to live, do your research and do not make a rushed decision. When you find the right house, I promise you, you will know it!

The not so fun part of moving, packing!

As 2017 began, we prayed as usual for our goals for the new year and we didn’t even want to put “new house” on the goal’s list because although it wasn’t ideal, we truly became content with our old house. But deep down, my main concern was for Maddison’s school as the school she would have attended at our previous house was not rated well. So I voiced my concern to the Lord and thought we’ll figure it out when we get there!

One night, at about 3am, while I was working and surfing on Zillow, I saw this house and it looked perfect with everything on my list. I texted our realtor and asked her if the house was still on the market. She later responded that it was still on the market and that we could go see it in the morning. We had selected 2 other houses to look at, as well. The house I saw was the second house we toured and after walking in it for about 5 minutes, we didn’t even want to look at the rest of the house or the third house…We knew this was “IT”! Both Allan and I were in agreement which was never the case with the other houses we saw; thus we were ready to put an offer! We put an offer that day and by that night, the sellers had accepted our offer which was insane for the current house market in McKinney where people our bidding 5K-20K above asking for houses. The next thing was to sell our house and the first day we put our house on the market we got an offer, another sign that this was a God thing because it was almost effortless. Within 30 days, we had closed on our house and moved in.

We ended up buying in McKinney because not only do we love it here but after praying and thinking about it, we realized that although it would have been nice to live close to family and get babysitting help, the reality is that when you are married and have a family, you cannot rely on others for your family needs, you have to make decisions based on where God is leading you and as if it was only you, your husband and kids! Your family members have their own lives too and when they need to move they probably won’t consult you so make a decision based on what’s best for you and your nuclear family. In our case, we strongly believe the Lord has placed us in McKinney for this season in our lives!

This is what sold me into this new house! This kitchen, these staircases, the open feel and the backyard patio which I’ll post pic later!

I am most grateful to the Lord not only for blessing us with a new house when we least expected it but I’m glad He shut the door when we were first looking because it was not the right time. I believe the greatest lesson I learned from this process is to be content in whatever stage you are in and to hold earthly things loosely because houses and material things will pass away but the Lord is the only one that will remain. So whether in a 1 bedroom apartment or 5 bedroom house, I have learned to be content and trust in the Lord Jesus, He knows what I need!

I also want to give a special shout out to my husband whom I’m so proud of!!! He worked so hard to get us this new house and I’m so grateful for him always making sure Maddison and I live most comfortably!

Now, to the fun part…Let the home decor, interior design, making memories and making this new house, a HOME begin!!

Love deeply,

Every good and perfect gift is from above!
